The brief
Digital media planning involves a lot of manual entry in ad platforms. A wrong budget field, a missed setting or a mistyped name can slip through and cost a campaign time. Universal McCann wanted a tool that catches these errors at the moment they happen, not after launch.
The answer was the UM Ad Compliance Tool, a Chrome extension. It watches the campaign setup screens and shows real-time alerts when an input does not match the plan. At the time of the portfolio entry it supported Google and Meta campaigns, with other platforms planned.
What I did
I played a key role in the development of the extension. My part was the layer that reads and controls the inputs and buttons on the advertising platforms. The approach is similar to how Google Tag Manager listens to page elements: the extension finds the fields on the page, reads what the planner enters and compares it with the rules set for that campaign.
The extension is built on Chrome Manifest V3 in JavaScript.
The result
The tool is an internal agency product, so there is no public link and no usage figures to share here. It shipped in 2024 and reached version 3.0 of its manifest that year.
